The electrification of mobility is upon us. All the major automobile manufacturers have EVs (electric vehicles) and hybrids in their product plans.
Nations are calling for a sales ban on vehicles with internal combustion engines. Electric vehicles offer the major advantage of no tailpipe emissions.
Electric vehicles are far more energy efficient than gasoline powered vehicles. A typical gas powered vehicle only converts about 25% of the fuel burned into forward propulsion (thermal efficiency). The rest of the energy is wasted as heat. Electric vehicles have a thermal efficiency of approximately 80%.
Engineers love efficiency. Electromobility is here today. But more importantly, it is the future.
The current global demand for electricity is in the trillions of kilowatt hours. Imagine the demand when millions of electric vehicles are on the road.
China: 5.9 trillion
U.S: 3.9 trillion
EU: 2.7 trillion
India: 1 trillion
Japan: .9 trillion
